A Small Ask
I’m opening a golf club in Oslo, and I could use your help (even if you’re not Norwegian)
This one is a little different. No charts or regressions. Just a quick update from Oslo and a direct ask for your help from (hopefully) you’re favorite Substacker.
For the last few months I’ve been building Vika Golf Club, an indoor golf club in Vika, right in the middle of Oslo. I took over the space at the start of October, the simulators went in a couple of weeks later, and we open the doors on November 1st.
From here on, Vika is where I’ll spend most of my working days. I’m running the club full-time, and doing my coaching and consulting work out of the studio there.
The writing isn’t going anywhere, though. I love looking into golf data too much to stop, whether it’s college golf, junior golf, professional or elite golf.
The Ask
Starting something from scratch is humbling, and a lot of it comes down to people finding out it exists. So I’m asking you directly for three things:
1)
Follow Vika Golf Club on Instagram: @vikagolf.no. I know most of you aren’t in Oslo, or even in Norway. It would still mean a lot to me and help me out. A brand-new club needs those early follows, and if you know golfers in Oslo, sharing the page with them or on your story would help even more.
2)
Subscribe if you haven’t already. It’s free, and it’s the best way to keep up with what’s coming.
3)
Share a piece you liked with a colleague, a friend, or on social media, wherever you think it fits. One share from you reaches people I never could on my own.

Coming Up
Transfers. Who moves up a level, who moves down, and what happens to their playing time and scoring once they get there. I tracked every transfer I could find to look at how successful their decisions were.
Birthdays. Does the month you were born in matter in golf? Relative age effects are well documented in soccer and hockey. I wanted to see if golf has its own version, from junior golf through college. This one is a little personal too, as a parent watching my own kids come up through Norwegian sports.
I’m working hard on those pieces - watch this space!
Thanks for reading, and for following along. It means a lot!
